Volta Institute of Development Studies Supports Akosombo Dam Spillage Victims in North and Central Tongu

Following months of fundraising on Penplusbytes’s “Yen Somu Bi” crowdfunding platform (Yensomubi.org), the Volta Institute for Development Studies (VIDS), has donated relief items to victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage in the Volta region.

The donation took place in two districts in the Volta region. Victims in the North Tongu district received their donations on July 5th, while victims in the Central Tongu district received theirs on July 11th. Additionally, schools in various affected communities were provided with learning materials to support the educational needs of the pupils.

Mr. Courage Dei-Zanga, Chief Executive Officer of the Volta Institute of Development Studies, expressed appreciation for the support from the “Yen Somu Bi” team, the 1989 Year Group of the Chemu Senior High School and dozens of donors who contributed to support the donation drive to support the flood victims.

He also expressed gratitude to the Dela Gati Foundation, Educational Workers Connect, and the Member of Parliament for Central Tongu, Hon. Gaby Hotorwodze, and various individuals who supported the project. Mr. Dei-Zanga emphasized that local resource mobilization requires the active involvement of all, including people in the diaspora.

The donated items included exercise books and other children’s learning materials, which were given to Mefe, EP, Methodist, LA, Avadoekome and Holy Christ Global basic schools in the two districts. Other items, including clothing, bedding, and detergents, were donated to the communities, especially women, in the two districts.

The donation ceremony was attended by Madam Veronica Lumor, Basic School Coordinator who represented the District Director of Education for North Tongu, and Headmaster of one of the schools, Mr. Charles Dagba.
