In the northern part of Ghana, a group of 17 once brave women from Kpandai, Salaga, and Chereponi shared a silent bond of suffering. Each of these women bore the weight of a condition that had stolen their dignity and shattered their dreams: obstetric fistula. Obstetric fistula is a medical condition caused by childbirth injuries mainly by prolonged, obstructed labour without access to timely, high-quality medical treatment. This debilitating condition left them isolated and in constant pain, unable to participate in their communities or care for their families as they once had. The tragic part is that one of the women known as is a blind, was raped and currently a fistula patient. Before the fistula, she was known for her infectious laughter and tireless work in her family's farm which each and every one of the fistula patients have in common. But after a difficult childbirth left these women with these condition, turning their lives upside down. They can no longer work or foster any family affairs therefore causing stigmatization on them from their communities. CAAP-Ghana haven arrived as a beacon of hope in the form of a compassion to secure cure for these vulnerable women. Dr. Gandau a renowned Medical doctor of Abu Gausu Hospital has kindly agreed to perform surgeries on pro bono. Despite the pro bono there is a greater need to raise funds for laboratory tests, imaging, medicines, and feeding during their treatment. No amount is too small to transform the lives of these 17 obstetric fistula patients. Let’s us all join hands in restoring lives and hopes to these women.
