NOTICE OF UPCOMING PROTEST:
#GhanaDeservesBetter #ReOccupyJulorbiHouse
The Democracy Hub hereby informs the public and media outlets of our upcoming peaceful protest under the theme "A New Constitution for a New Generation" scheduled to take place at the Revolutionary Square behind Liberation Road, opposite the Jubilee House. The protest will begin at 6:00 AM on 21st September and conclude at 11:59 PM on 23rd September.

Purpose of the Protest:
This demonstration is organized to address several critical issues plaguing Ghanaian society, with a particular focus on socio-economic injustice, lack of jobs, rising poverty, state capture, nepotism, corruption, and the need for judicial independence.

The specific concerns include:
Socio-Economic Injustice: Addressing the widening gap between the rich and the poor, which perpetuates inequality and denies many Ghanaians, especially the youth, access to basic opportunities and resources.

Lack of Jobs: Highlighting the severe unemployment crisis that leaves many young Ghanaians without meaningful employment, affecting their ability to contribute to the economy and secure their futures.
Rising Poverty: Drawing attention to the increasing levels of poverty exacerbated by inflation, rising living costs, and economic mismanagement, which disproportionately affect vulnerable populations.
State Capture and Nepotism: Protesting against the control of state institutions by a select few for personal and political gain, undermining democratic principles and public trust.

Government Corruption: Calling for an end to widespread corruption that siphons resources away from public services and development projects, further entrenching poverty and inequality.
Judicial Independence: Emphasizing the need for a judiciary that is free from political interference to uphold the rule of law and protect citizens' rights. Current attempts to undermine judicial independence threaten democracy and justice.

Significance of the Date:
The protest coincides with the birthday of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the founding father of Ghana. This date is chosen to honor his legacy of self-governance, freedom, and national development, invoking his spirit of courage and determination in our call for a new constitution that meets the needs of contemporary Ghana.

Why a New Constitution is Necessary:
Inclusive Governance: Ensuring a governance structure that truly represents and serves all Ghanaians, especially the youth.
Transparency and Accountability: Establishing stronger mechanisms to combat corruption and restore public trust.
Economic Reforms: Promoting sustainable development, job creation, and equitable distribution of resources.
Equity in Distribution of Public Goods: Ensuring the equitable distribution of public goods and services.
Minimizing State Capture: Creating a framework that prevents partisan actors from capturing state institutions.
Safeguards Against Politicization: Protecting the public service from undue political influence.
Judicial Independence: Emphasizing judicial independence to uphold the rule of law and protect citizens' rights.

Details of the Protest:
Venue: Revolutionary Square behind Liberation Road, opposite the Jubilee House.
Format: Picketing with peaceful gatherings to express concerns and advocate for constitutional reforms.
Time: 6:00 AM on 21st September to 11:59 PM on 23rd September.

Goals of the Protest:
Spark Conversations: Initiating meaningful dialogue about the need for constitutional reforms.
Inspire Action: Calling for a more just and equitable society where the voices of the youth are heard and valued.
Raise Urgency for Youth Issues: Highlighting youth issues ahead of the 2024 elections to ensure they are prioritized by political actors.
We are committed to a peaceful and orderly protest and request the cooperation of the Ghana Police Service to maintain public order and ensure the safety of all participants.
